History of tempered glass
In 1903 Edouard Benedictus invented safety glass to prevent glass shattering caused by force or hot water with the combination of cellulose nitrate and glass, changing the face of safety in cookware, shower cabins, architectural structures, and vehicles.
Following this invention by the end of 1910 more additional formulas were developed to help with the creation of an even higher quality glass, known as tempered glass.
People started to gain interest and begun using tempered glass in replacement of standard window glass to increase the safety in their living and working environments.
Even though tempered glass has many advantages we have created a small list combining a number of them for you to skim through:
Safety •
Since tempered glass has more mechanical resistance it is safer to use and even when great force is applied, instead of breaking into sharp shards it creates small blunt gravel-like pieces. This removes the risk of injury caused by broken sharp pieces of regular glass.
Strength •
As mentioned before a significant quality of tempered glass is its strength. This quality helps prevents this glass from breaking and scratching by natural and mechanical forces.
Great resistance against scratches •
This quality of the tempered glass makes it a great fit for everyday usage, even in high foot traffic buildings. This quality is not only able to ensure only the safety but also the beauty of units such as windows, doors, shower cabins, cabinets, etc. by staying flawless and clear.
Resistance against heat •
The unique manufacturing process of this glass enables it to withstand high temperatures of different environments such as kitchen appliances and shower cabins, making it a necessity in the production of shower cabins.
Design versatility •
The tempered glass even helps in favor of design and designers, enabling designers to create, creative and unique designs in many different forms, such as frameless shower cabins, partitions, doors, and windows.
Pattern options •
Tempered glass can be manufactured in different patterns, frostings, clear color coatings, and engravings to help compliment different designs and styles.
High quality and clarity •
Additional to its high quality, tempered glass also has substantial clarity properties, the combination of these two characteristics has enabled manufacturers and designers to use them in different structures such as glass shower cabins, glass doors, cabinets, windows, etc.
Tempered glass is often the ideal choice for different glass needs.
